Tema predavanja su filmske trilogije, a Randy spominje "Star Wars" i "The Godfather". Horror trilogy, as one character in the movie says, is rare, but it happens. "Scream 3" is the final part of a trilogy that started four short years ago. And of course, as you might have imagined, Wes Craven, the immortal director of "Nightmare in the Elm Street" was heavily criticized for the movie. It seems to me, though, that he wasn't entirely serious in his intent to make a real horror movie, but "Scream 3" looks more like a parody of itself. To an extent, that was the case with the previous two movies, with the "movie within the movie" concept. Pivotal moment of "Scream 3" is a short lecture by Randy, a friend of the main characters, who did not survive the last installment. The subject of the lecture is movie trilogy, and Randy refers to Star Wars and The Godfather. Craven plays around with templates, orchestrating most of the killings in and around the studio where "Stab 3" is filmed. Producers invested a lot of effort to ensure the critics would not leak the important details of the story, but that story is not all that spectacular, and its unpredictability soon becomes predictable. Much more fun are the quarrels between main characters and the multitude of comic situations and gags. The scenes of the confrontations between the main killer and his (or hers?) victims are satisfactorily destructive, suspenseful, and, of course, bloody, with my personal least favorite being the one in which Jenny McCarthy ends up dead after only 20 minutes of the movie. The twists of the plot are a bit too sloppy for us to follow, the characters are too plain for us to feel sorry about their mutilated corpses, and the ending too unbelievable for us to care, but Craven's style remains incorrigibly charming. This is neither the scariest nor the best movie he made, but it is one of the most entertaining ones.
