| Muskarci
"An Ideal Husband", otisli smo dati svoj doprinos solidnom debi-vikendu od osam
miliona dolara za film "Return to Me", sarmantnu malu romanticnu komediju, u
filmovima" Duchovny. On igra mladog nadobudnog arhitekta, ozenjenog lijepom
zoolosko srce donatora organa.
jednoglasno urlicu vecinu filma.
No
zadrzi nasu paznju. Sporedna glumacka postava takodjer obavlja dobar posao, obezbijedivsi
dodatne komicne elemente i doprinoseci opstoj laganoj atmosferi filma. Zbog svega ovoga,

Guys can't go wrong with Minnie Driver. She's so adorable, you
can't take your eyes off her, and she always plays in movies with a strong leading male
(Matt Damon, John Cusack), so you can safely bring your girlfriend/wife with you and get
away with it. After we enjoyed the delicious "An Ideal Husband", we went to give
our contribution to the solid opening weekend of $8M for "Return to Me", a
charming little romantic comedy, starring Driver and David "You know me for my TV
work, but I used to be a movie actor as well" Duchovny. He is playing a young
hot-shot architect, happily married to a beautiful environmentalist, while she begins the
movie on a hospital bed, whispering "Rosebud" to her friend, a joke that
alarmingly small portion of the attendance seemed to get. (just in case, that is the
mysterious final word of Orson Welles' character in "Citizen Kane") Before we
know it, Duchovny's wife dies after a car crash, and Driver's life (no pun intended here)
is saved by the donor environmentalist's heart. The movie hits the emotional low some 20
minutes after the opening shot (quite interesting helicam movement), when Duchovny weeps
in his bloody tuxedo shirt, his dog mourning beside him. A year later, we see Driver
almost fully recovered, surrounded by a colorful bunch of friends with good intentions
to get her a guy. There's Bonnie Hunt, who also directed the movie, as the wife of
obscenely obese and equally loveable James Belushi and mother of five brats screaming in
unison for most of the movie. Robert Loggia is an Italian uncle, and Caroll O'Connor is
wonderful as an Irish grandfather. Duchovny, on the other hand, has a bunch of adolescent
dog-sitters and David Alan Grier as his friends. And, as the predictable story goes, there
will be a romance, there will be ups, there will be downs. Ladies, get your handkerchiefs,
because you will use them. What I liked about this movie is that it is not pretending to
be more than it is an entertaining story, that doesn't care too much about the
details. There is no accident scene, there is no OR scene (and the ER scene is cut very
short), and there is a general theme of rebuilding on new grounds which is very uplifting.
The script is unbelievably corny, occasionally improbable and loaded with cliches, such as
dog waiting in front of the door for the mistress that is never coming back home or the
inevitable Fontana di Trevi. However, the lead characters are very credible, and there is
enough chemistry between them to get and keep our attention. The supporting cast also does
an admirable job of providing the extra comic elements, and contributing to the overall
light atmosphere of the movie. Because of all this, "Return to Me", which starts
as just another one of those tearjerkers, actually manages to be funny and good-natured,
and that's what we wanted to see in the first place. |
